I’m just glad Gary didn’t have to go to the ER afterwards. I will definitely miss you Gary, your “quirks” and all!
We’ll miss you, Gary, and will be praying for you! 加油!
I think this video also teaches about sacrifice–in order to get your friend wet, sometimes you have to get wet too
I was inspired by Gary’s determination and humility. After taking on the storms of life, he was willing to take on even more storms!
you guys are too much…! but that was vintage gary – we’ll miss you a lot!
I’ll miss you Gary! It just won’t be the same doing the “Gary, Gary, Gary” chant without you there (which means, yes, it will probably continue on; it’s too good not to).
Does anyone have footage of the original chant at that all-SF bowling outing? Classic.
Gary, we will miss you a lot! You are such a great older brother and example to us all. And yeah, I think we will still say “Gary! Gary!” and remember you.
I think you will miss it too!
i think we need to do one last chant of “gary gary” tonight at the airport, even though we may have security kick us out afterwards…
just be prepared to run
I will miss you Gary. Things will not be the same without you.
Man…*sniff*…I will miss you too Gary. I will always remember that first NSWN at SFSU where you were our skit director. You demanded such high excellence in acting and delivering the best possible 4-freshmen skit that it almost drove us actors insane. It was like that scene in Miracle, where the coach kept on drilling the hockey team…”Again!” “Again!” “Again!” “…Again!!” But for those of you who may not remember, or may not know, it was under that kind of pressure that some deep emotions needed to be expressed, and thus was birthed…Mr. Wong.
During one of the practices I started talking like a Cantonese businessman with suit and suitcase, trying to sell the random props.
I will also remember our skit drill sergeant talking to us during our breaks through a little toy doll of Woody from Toy Story that was sitting in his shirt pocket. That was pretty hilarious.
And then there was the.. “No booody knows..the trouble I’ve seen…no booody knooows my sorrowss…” moment in one of earliest the family nights.
hahah i remember the skit practices! Gary is a very good and patient director. It was Jesse from Toy Story 2! He would bring it out and talk to the doll or make it talk to us.
We did lose it quite a few times…. those were good memories…
Haha…I remember that. I thought, man, this guy is hardcore. We marched again and again, and again, while he stood in front of us like a drill sergeant. It was funny. If it were not for Gary, the skit would have not come together like it did.
Wow! I still remember those practices! I remember Mr. Wong for the first time when we was selling a random mirror to keep away the ghosts! I was dying from laughter.
I remember Christine in the Mario outfit, and Eileen as the narrator. I think Richard and I switched roles from the typical skit, and I forgot why, but all I remember was that Mr. Wong made those practices much more bearable. And Becky was the fourth person in the skit! It’s all coming back to me! Man those were good times.
But I never watch those Toy Story movies… Just too scary for me now… =)
I just love the music! It matches perfectly! When he sings, “You raise me up!”, Gary gets picked up and when he sings, “to walk on stormy seas” – that is when Gary goes into the waves.
What a fun day! It reminded me of Cambodia. It wasn’t as crazy though. In Cambodia, all of the brothers got dunked…or went into the water from dunking. The sisters dunked each other too…
Gary has raised the bar for the past 7 years in SF. Thank you Gary for raising the bar yet again last weekend! Jia you in Taiwan brotha
Gary Gary Gary! We will be cheering you on in Taiwan may we hear the students in Taiwan cheering you on and you asking them to “Calm down Calm down” with the embarassed look and the Taiwan bowling alley dude to join in the fun too.
we saw Gary off yesterday at SFO. We invaded the place with a huge ol box filled with In-N-Out burgers and fries for his last true All-American meal… he’s on the plane on his way there now..
Taiwan, get ready for Gary! Gary! Gary!
Thank you for being a pillar of faith for us, Gary. Our prayers are with you!
[...] of what not to say after your friends throw you into the ocean. Inspired by Gary, the bloggers at SFSU Koinonia decided to start a new genre of videos called Life Lessons, in the same vein as “That the [...]
This video (watched without sound) looks pretty barbaric, especially the last part. It looks like Rich is starting a conspiracy and all of a sudden everyone turns on Gary. : D
Thank you for your example of faith Gary~ I’ll pray for you
I’ll always remember that night when we went bowling, where the employees got on the PA system and also cheered Gary on along with us. Gary’s response was classic. He marched up to the bowling lane and threw a strike! It was so much fun. We’re gonna miss you, Gary!
I’m thankful that with the second throw, Edwin so graciously joined Gary in the ocean
That’s love. Thanks.
O man…that was hilarious. I was trying to pry Gary’s fingers off of Edwin, but his grip was tenacious. Gary did one thing well: when he knew it was over, he took someone down with him.
stinking… Oh well, it was worth it!
i can’t stop watching this…haha!
Gary I will be praying for u too hopefully you will make a splash landing in Taiwan
We have a couple of lakes on the NCTU and NTHU campuses. We’ll be sure to introduce Gary to them. I don’t think he’ll be making the same mistake afterwards (you will understand if you have ever seen these lakes!)
We’re thankful that Gary is here to help the ministry and look forward to Christine and the rest of the new team’s arrival!
Wow… this blog has turned a new corner with international visitors. Nice!
I’ve seen those lakes (more like ponds), and I wouldn’t go near them, Gary!
Seriously, those lakes are pretty nasty. There was one year where they didn’t clean out all the dead fish for a month combined with the hot and humid weather… yeah, you get the picture or the smell if you catch my drift.
oh man, i remember those lakes well. it was especially bad in August, when it was REALLY hot and humid
that was a good pun, edwin! you should post it on disgracepoint
the person who got it the best was Will… in his words.. COMPLETE OWNAGE.

oh man. Will’s throw was not a wimpy. Sneak attack!
On that note, in defense of our other 40 plus brother, I heard that Gary insisted on taking Moon out for 40th birthday. But, once there, Moon just could not let himself be treated by Gary, knowing that Gary was unemployed. So, Moon paid instead. Gary had insisted on an expensive restaurant, too…
I just saw that video. Okay, I will admit that it was well put together and unintentionally hilarious. Just so you know, the Taiwan brothers are itching to throw me into the Victory Lake on the NTHU campus. (Yes, that Victory Lake…)
After viewing this video, however, I must conclude that it was still a wimpy throw… :0
It is a Taiwanese tradition to throw newcomers into Victory Lake… I will suggest that to Eugene and the rest of the team to properly welcome you
.
Let’s make sure that Gary won’t end up in Victory Lake…with a wimpy throw that is!
A comment was made on disgracepoint about how Gary’s hair wasn’t impacted by the water at all. This also seems to be the case with Will’s hair
haw haw!! GARY GARY GARY! (peanut gallery)
